Unsigned bands

After studying the genre of music i was going to look at for my music video, i looked at artists in the sub-genres i am interested in. Here is a list i made of Bands and Artists i going to search for their music videos to analyze the Camera, Mise-en-scene and Editing before i start producing my own.


These are the Unsigned bands i have looked at and their songs i have decided are my favorite and would like to work with.
I decided to scout Unsigned bands in my local area because it enables me to possibly work with them or film at a local gig they perform in. It also gives the band a chance to promote their music which is what music video's are all about.

Research: Questionnaire Review

This was the plan of questions i will ask the target audience for the music video idea i am working on. I have set the questions out so they have to give an answer not just yes or no so i can gain more information as to what they are interested in. It also gives me a chance to watch the videos they quote.

After completing two different questionnaires I looked at how they were different and how the will help me in my research.

Music Genre

I started to think about genre, and which one i would study and work with in my project.

I choose to look into different sub-genres on rock because that is a genre i am personally interested in and already know a little bit about. I researched what defines these genres on the internet from websites such as wikipedia and NME.

Brief

The brief i have chosen out of several choices is
Brief 1: A promotion package for the release of an album including
* music promotion video
* cover for its release as part of a digipack (CD/DVD)
* magazine advertisement for the digipack

I couldn't decide between this brief and brief 10, a short film because both are video art with a creative basis which I enjoy and currently learning skills in my other A-level, lens based media.
In the end I decided to do the music promotion package because it's a real interest of mine and I would enjoy it as a job in my future career. a five minute film would allow me to be free thinking and create by own story-line and script but i think it would be better for me to have a better structure to follow.
I regularly look at music videos as a source of my entertainment so already have a good insight as to what an audience expects. in my social time i attend local gigs too so that would be useful for me to source an unsigned band. I'm excited to get this project going and start studying genres and conventions of music videos because I have already started brainstorming many ideas.
I am starting to research 5 media products of my brief that are currently in the charts as well as some of the original works when music videos were first starting to appear.
